Braxton's Minecraft Birthday

I was amazed, after this Minecraft themed birthday party, to find out there were so many people who had no idea what Minecraft was. What!? Where's the rock you've been living under? My children, just the boys, have had mining/ block building fever for some time now. I was so excited when Braxton decided he wanted Minecraft for his 11th birthday theme. Because I am such a theme-loving mama, I went all out after scouring the internet for ideas. I typically try to put my own spin on the things I find other people have already created. This cake was created with the materials used in other Minecraft cakes (rice krispy treats, chocolate cake, jello, royal icing and fondant), but I made it my own. I wanted to include as many of the game details as I could pack into one, rather small, cake. The rice krispies made up the beach with a homemade fondant squid hiding in the blue jello water at the end of the waterfall. Chocolate cake squares built the homemade royal icing grass-covered hilltops complete with fondant pig, cow, mommy and baby sheep. The back end of the cake, also rice krispy treats, were covered in grey, stone-like icing encasing the red jello lava coming from the mountain cave and surrounded with awesome torches made from pretzel sticks with flames of fruit-by-the-foot.
Yesss, there are more rice krispies for this buffet. Colored green during preparation and covered in green and black icing, they were delish and looked good next to the TNT twizzler bundles.

Making banners is one of my favorite things, an example of the many variations of this use that there are for brown lunch bags. I downloaded a Minecraft themed font for free. This is my middle biggun', turned 11 with his torch light and wearing his Creeper elf hat. Yep, I made that :-).
