Redneck 13th!

There are so many ways one can interpret a 'redneck' or 'country' themed party. This here's just one of my best! My oldest boy, my rock, became a bona fide teenager this year. Triston is a mild mannered sweet heart who really isn't into much other than camo, the woods, the rebel flag and the General Lee. This party gave me an opportunity to experiment with a few cool ideas, for instance my homemade fondant (NOT the marshmallow kind, I have a marshmallow thing but I'll leave that for another time). Aside from the chilling temperatures outside that day, we had

a blast!

After scouring the internet & Pinteresting redneck party ideas, I compiled a few ideas and used them to create my own ideas. Ever sculpt a cheeseball before? or eaten anything out of an outhouse? Ooooooh, the poo in that outhouse was so gross to look at it was hard to eat, even though chocolate covered Rice krispy treats (yes, homemade with them dang marshmallows) are rather tasty, especially with a side of chocolate covered peanuts.

My niece loved the outhouse so much she took it home with her.

The rest of the food was merely chicken, but the guests saw BBQ Coon legs, Fried Frog Legs (everyone says they taste like chicken, right?), and Bacon wrapped Squirrel legs.

We did have fried chicken legs though. Hand-carved sugar cookies with royal icing flood and

corn flake crust (another experimental procedure), but so cool. And without going full Duck Dynasty theme and without forgetting a rednecks most favorite food, we had to have some Spam Sammies.

The finale was the cake of redneck cakes.....

Just kidding! The real redneck cake was my fondant premier. Of course I wanted camoflauge, so that was experiment part 2, and leaving the negative stigma attached to the Confederate flag aside, it is a symbol of the South. Now back to the fondant, very unprofessional and much like a sheet of fruit roll up, I managed to work out some pretty decent camo and had to keep repairing the flag corners.

Now, I don't have all the fancy tools most bakers have, so the letters, stripes and stars were all hand carved with a filet knife, I hope to be able to afford it all one day. That's one of the great things about Butterfly Creations, is the ability to work with what I have. This particular cake wasn't perfect by any means, but it was neat and how about I didn't even know I had misspelled "Birthday" until the day after I made it, during the party when my dad pointed it out! Ha! Talk about a fate having a hand, I thought I had just made an extra H.

The few people that showed up to brave the cold wind that day were great with the 'theme' spirit. My awesome children even went the extra mile and added the face camo.

We did have a few games, which of course were age appropriate for a teenage boy.

Nooo, there were no tobacco products served, the game was to see who could spit their bubble gum the farthest. Then there was a "How Redneck R U?" game, where everyone made their best guess at the four very hick contraptions hanging on the porch. #1 was the flashlight (a paint stick with matches taped to the end), #2 was the back scratcher (a paint stick with metal bottle caps glued to the end), #3 was a the fire extinguisher (a 2 liter bottle of water -supposed to be- hanging over a trashcan), and last but not least was #4 the fire alarm (the oven-pop popcorn). There was one more, but it was so cool I gave it away for a goody bag substitute, the Redneck Bubble Bath.

LOL!

Did I mention how much I loooove themes? When I say I really get into details and really dig my themes, I mean myself, as well. Even the rednecks don't do redneck as good as me.
