Gotta Catch'em all! Pokemon Birthday for Brat!

If you're a mother with children from ages 5 to maybe 14, primarily boys, you know what a huge thing Pokemon is. The interest might come and then go, but it comes back when they acutally 'learn' what they're supposed to do with all those Pokemon trading cards they've begged for. This particular year, my Braxton turned 10 and his Pokemon interest centered primarily on the characters themselves, not so much the cards.

Once again, Pinterest played a big role in my themed brainstorming, but a lot of the Pokemon parties were pretty generic and I like detals. I'm a very detail friendly person. The Pokeball pizzas were so easy and devoured so quickly. In lew of fruit salad, we had Caterpie Kabobs (did not make near enough of these), kids and adults alike loved the grapes and icing eyes.

Additional sides included Koffings Puffs (popcorn) , JigglyPuff Jello, and Charizard Cheesedoodles. If you're not familiar, these are all names of some of the Pokemon character favorites. It was fun and you can't always name your party food after the characters that are associated with your theme.

For the main event, we had a Pikachu cake! My first 'character' cake ever, I went with simple yet not just a plain circle or sheet cake. Does he look like a bunny? Yeah, probably, or so my boyfriend and kids informed me it did, but that didn't lessen my pride any, much. I wasn't at the point of making my own icing yet, so I just colored store bought icing. Try not to hold it

against me, please.

The birthday boy, being a middle child, isn't always the easiest to please or even to express he is actually pleased, but I'd have to say that this was the best birthday in a while. The food isn't everything either, we had nametags for two teams; Team Pearl and Team Diamond. Each guest was alternately given one from a team as they arrived and this provided ready built teams for games. There was also a mini craft, which I would only recommend for indoor parties, where I gave the kids a choice of Pokemon character that I could print a cut out project to build their Pokemon of choice. The birthday boy happens to be really into paper crafts, so this seemed fitting for his big day. Add a few relighting sparkler candles (kinda looks like Pikachu Acupuncture) and you have a 'blast' of a celebration!
